Scanning your driver’s license at the kiosk

Overview

Our kiosks use barcode scanning technology to quickly verify your driver’s license. This article will guide you through the scanning process and provide solutions if you encounter any issues.

How to Scan Your Driver’s License

Step 1: When prompted by the kiosk, locate the barcode on the back of your driver’s license.

Step 2: Hold your driver’s license under the red scanner light on the kiosk.

Step 3: Keep the license steady and ensure the barcode is fully visible to the scanner. The machine will automatically read the barcode and process your information.

Troubleshooting: Dual Barcode Issues

Some driver’s licenses contain two barcodes—a large one and a small one. The large barcode contains the information we need; the small barcode does not.

If the kiosk is having difficulty scanning your license:

  • Check if your license has two barcodes
  • Use your finger or thumb to cover the smaller barcode
  • Hold the license so only the larger barcode is visible to the scanner
  • Try scanning again

Troubleshooting: Damaged or Scratched Licenses

If your driver’s license barcode is scratched, worn, or damaged, the kiosk may be unable to read it. In this case, we can manually add your license to your account.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Take a clear photo of the front of your driver’s license
  2. Take a clear photo of the back of your driver’s license
  3. Take a selfie of yourself holding your driver’s license
  4. Text or email these images to us along with your name and phone number

We will process your license manually and add it to your account.

Using a Passport Instead

If you prefer to use a passport for identification, we can accommodate this. However, passports cannot be scanned by the kiosk and must be processed manually.

To use your passport:

  1. Take a clear photo of your passport information page
  2. Take a selfie of yourself holding your passport
  3. Text or email these images to us along with your name and phone number

We will manually verify and add your passport information to your account.
